TGD rehearsal

I was as nervous as I’ve been in a while
when all the great dividers showed up to
run through some of the old songs
I had no idea what to expect

 

the first song we warmed up on

was ‘used to be’

felt like an old pair of shoes
I hadn’t put on in a long time

I couldn’t help but grin
like a fool a few times

there was this certain thing that we
had when we played together

none of us were virtuosos
and I couldn’t sing worth a damn
but that never stopped us back then

if anything, the great divide
sounds BETTER now than we ever
have

of course we shanked a few bridges
here and there and I had to google up

some of my own words,

but there were times when it just clicked
and it felt powerful
I had forgotten about some of the old
songs and after running through them
a few times I fell in love with them again

I never could stand on a stage and fake
how I felt

maybe that shows lack of professionalism,

but I’m more about realism and what I’m going
through is what you get
in writing and performance

the way that music made me feel last night
and the smile it put on my face

makes me eager to play that music for
people again

and I won’t be faking that goofy grin

who knows how many shows we will
do because we all have families and
lives buzzing about us

but I will be proud to stand on the stage
with my old friends and do
what we used to do
as many times as they care to do it

I’d like to hit texas, nebraska…

the one thing I am most proud of
is the fact that the songs stood the test
of time

the band was not a footnote in
some ‘red dirt’ history

I’m also floored by how many people
are excited about seeing the show again

hell, I’m one of them

should be an interesting year
my friends

feels like I’ve flown full circle

so many memories came flooding
back when we jammed through
the tunes

I’m sure it will stir a few
in others

and that’s about the best thing
an artist can accomplish

 

in closing,

if there is a fence that you can mend…

get to mending it

    I read what you said and though I Can’t play a guitar it reminded me of all my old friends. Thank! I was just seeing what Gary was up To. HooAh!

    If TGD would happen to make an appearance in Nebraska I am really sure that they would have a sold out show. There are so many people that miss TGD for so many reasons.

    Yes, hit Nebraska! I’m with Nick, it would be a sold out show. TGD takes me back in ways that other music just doesn’t. I’d love to experience it live again.

    Im with Em above. TGD music is just different than anything else. It will always have its own place. Can’t wait for College Days!

    Was introduced to TGD and to what people call red dirt with “break in the storm” you have been my favorite musician ever since. We try to make it out a few time a year when you are in Fort Worth but now I stay in the shadows and only get to have a few, wife puts me on restriction, HA. So glad to have a reason to get the baby sitter when you come to Texas and tie one on!

    i’ve been there with you since ’92. All the TGD years and the EP’s and MMB. I’ve never loved an artist more than you Mac. Your words bring out true feelings. Lyrics that speak and move people. Songs that you can feel, straight down to your bones. I’m thankful to have your music playing everyday. I hope I can make the drive to Okie and see the show. Thanks for what you do and thanks to your family for sharing you with us.

    I’ll have to make the drive up to Stilly for College Days. I got into your music not long after the split and regret that I never had a chance to see TGD play together.

    I was at that last show at the tumbleweed, and at countless shows before that. I never thought i’d ever get the chance to go back down that road again! I’m super excited!

    We are very excited to read about the reunion of the band. I have loved everything you guys have done and the direction you took wtih MMB. Can’t wait for you to make your long trek back to Nebraska! I will guarantee a great showing.

    I have been following since the very beginning. I loved you guys then and can’t wait for the show at College Days!! What a great reunion it will be with old friends and great music!!

    I discovered your music with pour me a vacation. I was working night shifton a turn around had worked 45 days straight. I woke up and put cmt on one after noon while I was fixing my breakfast/afternoon snack before packing my dinner for work that night and I heard that song and you guys got me. I got to see you when you played bear creek (a honky tonk in Louisiana). My senior year at LSU you played at the Station in Lafayette and my cousin and her best friend brought me out there for my birthday. When I met the woman that was to become my wife and the love of my life, I introduced her to your music. She loves it.
    Last october she was diagnosed with breast cancer . It was then that I rediscovered you and we made halfway out of the woods, our mantra. We went to see you at the Mariners inn in Hammond. She was too weak from the Chemo to stay for the show. I would love it if you could put out a schedule of when TGD is playing . My wife is in remission and would love to take her on a road trip to see you guys. Your music has meant alot to me.
