“An object at rest stays at rest and an object in motion stays in motion with the same speed and in the same direction unless acted upon by an unbalanced force.” – Newton’s First Law of Motion
I guess that’s why I can’t
go to sleep or lay down
and the unbalanced force
would be the tylenol p.m. bottle
but it’s empty
friends and family over
for a belated thanksgiving
dinner
afternoon of recording
a tune in the boohatch
jason boland came by to
sing on a gospel tune for
a band I’m working with
called hellcat susie
good to see an old friend
outside of a club
without a big hoorah going on
dug through old photos
of all of us much younger
with childers, the rangers, ragweed
and skinner all at the blue door
together
tried to crack an old
safe I found in the house
when I moved in
no luck
several theories why
loaded up the van
and went to pick up my
herd at the vet
one schnauzer
one goose
one goat
(the new one bourbon, one scotch, and one beer)
loaded in the rock and roll van
jason’s girlfriend holding
the goose
the goat screaming in the back
of the van
and two guys in the front
that got luckier than they
probably deserved
to top the whole day
off, I was standing with my
parents in the backyard
admiring my goofy herd
and the goat
full on mounted the goose
what do you do?
too late to call norman rockwell
I boarded them together at
the vet in a horse stall while
I was on vacation
I guess they’re
“taking it to another level”
they are inseparable
goosey laid eggs every day
for the vet and he ate one
claiming it to be ‘gamey’
they had 7 of them in their
refrigerator which I said
they could keep
and they no doubt appreciated that
when they bill me for their stay
I guess I can bill them for the eggs
should even out
he did eat one
goat loving goose eggs
ain’t cheap
when the day finally wound
down I had to load the
band gear back in the van
when I walked inside
my youngest was waiting at the
door in a tutu and my grandmother’s
high heels on
she told me in a Swedish accent
that she needed a passport
I think I’m not sleeping
because I’m afraid I might
miss something
it’s 5 a.m. and the rooster
is crowing
I get up with the chickens
I pretend they get up around noon

And to think, I wake up every day left-handed but at least I’m in my right mind, I think!! Funny stuff Mac.

Reminds me of a couple of students I once had. These two boys were brothers who lived in the Cloudy mountain area and really wanted out of school for the local county fair. So, on their way to town they go to the Pushmataha County Fair in the red pacer ragged out hatch back car, one was driving while the other was in the front passenger seat holding a PIG in his lap and the chickens were in the back.
