5 in the morning
in a dark basement
and it’s my birthday
40 years old today
Leonard Cohen just came up
on shuffle with ‘Chelsea Hotel’
I first heard it when john fullbright
played it for me
around the time I was trying
to figure out who ‘TEETH” was
I’m going to turn it down just
a little bit
“I remember you well in the Chelsea Hotel…”
I got a bukowski book from amazon
the other day and on the back
was a quote from Leonard Cohen
“bukowski brought us all down to earth. even the angels.”
I was noticing this quote when I heard
my oldest daughter below me
trying to learn how to play Cohen’s “Hallelujah”
on the piano
took a minute for all of it to
come together in my head
all of that and I played
along while skiner sang it
in Louisiana…
he’s all over the house
today and yesterday
and last week
music is brilliant like that
forty years behind me
it feels o.k.
glad I stopped drinking when I did.
not sure if I would even be here
had I kept on
maybe on my 80th birthday
I’ll throw a party and just get
drunker than a monkey
I’ve got 40 years to talk myself
out of that one

Smart decision my friend
Happy 40th Mike and for the record we’re glad you’re here. I set a similar goal to achieve by my 40th and all is still good. But I really want it back when I turn 80, funny you thought so too.
Peace and love
Hey Mike! How bout that John Fullbright? Just discovered him not too long ago. Hes pretty amazing. Cant wait till he makes he way to the Stephenville, Tx area.
Much love Mac! Happy 40th — belated!!!! Much love to Scottie and the Babe’s for sharing you with us for so many years. She’s an amazing woman! I wish I had half the strength she did!
Hello
Is there anybody in there?
Just nod if you can hear me
Is there anyone home?
Cool post. Like my grandpa always said, music is the most powerful and fulfilling of any path to the soul. I’m trying to broaden my horizens and learn to play piano. Im starting with “Between two Thieves. Maybe I’ll play it in church some day.
i think the Police wrote a song about just that type of occurrence. I’ve had a couple of moments like that with music. I.E. thinking of a particular song and then hear it come on the radio. Or wishing one of your favorite artists would come to your town and having that wish come true, even though they haven’t been around in decades!! Love that stuff.
